Barbados is recognised as having one of the world’s quality ship registries and enjoys the status of being on the Paris MOU White List.
The Paris MOU, which originated in 1982, covers the waters of the European Coastal States and the North Atlantic basin from North America to Europe. It aims at eliminating the operation of sub-standard ships through the harmonised system of Port State Control.
Since 2007 the detention percentage has been decreasing gradually. The trend has continued and in 2010 the percentage reached 3.3%, an all time low over the past decade.
Considered to be the worldwide index for flag performance, the Paris MOU ‘Black, Grey and White Lists clearly demonstrate those flags that perform as opposed to those flags that do not perform well enough.
BMSR continually strive to keep detentions and inspections to a minimum which is why BMSR consider White List status as being a crucial annual target to be achieved as a matter of course.
