USCG Qualship 21 Programme

In their efforts to eliminate substandard shipping, the US Coast Guard has primarily focused their attention on improved methods to identify poor-quality vessels and to enforce compliance with international and U.S. standards. The aim is to reward those high-quality ships with incentives to encourage quality operations. This initiative is known as QUALSHIP 21.

Barbados was amongst the first five countries to gain the US Coast Guards QUALSHIP 21 recognition in 2005 and is still in the Top 10.

You may obtain further information on the QUALSHIP 21 standard by visiting the HOMEPORT website of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security. You can also download a pdf which describes the criteria required by a Registry to qualify for the QUALSHIP 21 standard here.
